Also of note, this is my second purchase of the ASUS brand, the first one was also very reliable and has served me well, it was even dropped and lived to compute to this day. I upgraded to this computer due to my older ASUS (7 years old) could not handle the 4k video so well. (BTW, I am not referring to the cheap base models of ASUS, rather the gaming computers. As you can see from the photo, I have 2 monitors hooked up, and the original ASUS right beside this one.
I bought this knowing that I would need to upgrade the RAM right from the start, so I purchased a single 16GB module along with the laptop. Trust me it'll do you some good. I also added a second SSD since it has an available extra M.2 slot.
The laptop arrived the next day after purchase, in a bigger box so you don't know what's actually inside. For me that was a good thing (nosy neighbors). Upon unboxing I turned it on, got online and registered it with Asus. You get a one year accident drop protection warranty when you do. Then I shut it down and proceeded with the upgrades.
Upgrades are easy on this machine. Simply flip bottom side up, unscrew 14 or so screws, carefully remove the back cover (plastic pry tool helps) and you have access to the RAM and SSD's. It comes with 8GB RAM soldered on the motherboard and one open slot to add more (up to 64GB) for a total of 72GB of RAM, but a 16GB module will do for most people. My laptop shipped with an Intel nvme SSD at 512GB of storage. The specs are pretty decent for it. I added a second SSD as a storage/installation drive for games so they don't use up the main OS drive. Put everything back together and proceeded to do a clean install of Windows 11. If you do this remember to download the Intel IRST drivers or you won't see the SSD's upon initial installation. Back up and running, downloaded the Asus drivers and programs for it from their website and then downloaded some games to play.
Under heavy gaming or tubo mode, the fan does get loud but not unbearable... nothing compared to other high end gaming laptops. Surprisingly, it runs pretty cool. The RTX3050 ti graphics card runs smooth, even when playing Genshin Impact or Overwatch on max settings on a 4k 144hz HDTV, the wifi 6 card is fast and holds the connection stable between laptop and router, and although there's no RGB backlighting, the single color backlit keyboard does great for night gaming.
It's thin, lightweight and not as bulky as a more expensive gaming laptop, but it's exactly what I wanted and needed. The price was great, the fit and finish is good, easy to upgrade, and most of all, it suits my needs perfectly. I would definitely recommend and buy another one, especially from Asus.
I use it to play genshin impact
